Beegle’s remarks encouraged
us to engage in community
conversation about poverty
and its bearings on education.
The next day began with
a tour of three El Paso ISD
school sites and the district’s
planetarium. The keynote
speaker that afternoon was
Bruce A. Jacobs, who stressed
the evolution of racial and
ethnic tensions and how we
guide and approve policy for
the good of all children.
The session ended with a
presentation by Derrick Greenfield of North Carolina State
University. His remarks explored hidden biases and how
people must recognize them.
Joining the Ranks
Following year-long research, our class made presentations of our findings at the
fifth and last session held in
Fort Worth.
In this long journey,
the Leadership TASB Class
of 2011 joined the ranks of
more than 600 school board
members statewide who are
Leadership TASB alumni. All
of our class members graduated as master trustees.
I invite everyone to attend the class presentations at
the TASA/TASB Convention
in Austin September 30-Oc-
tober 2, where our “family”
members will reunite.
Leadership TASB has
empowered me to be a better
leader and allowed me to be a
part of a special team of lifelong friends. And without an
outstanding TASB staff, there
cannot be a great program.
