7–7: 30 a.m...........Registration and Continental Breakfast
7: 30 a.m.–2: 30 p.m............................................. Program
Start your first TASA/TASB Convention off right by joining other newly elected school board members for networking and education. New board members will leave
with an instant network and support.
This session will focus on the job of a school board
member, why it is important for trustees to act as a
board rather than as individuals, what makes a team
effective, and how each member can contribute to that
effectiveness. Participants will discuss how to handle
the personal and public demands that come with their
new job. They’ll also learn
the board’s basic roles and
responsibilities and how their
duties differ from those of the
superintendent. Key team
procedures, communication
strategies, and ethical be-
havior are explored as ways to help new board members
gain trust and get things accomplished quicker. Plenty
of tips and tools for new trustees are included as
resources.
Powered by TASB ISD, this session fulfills TASB ISD
sessions Boardsmanship and Teamwork and School Law
Basics. Board members attending this seminar are also
encouraged to attend Open Meetings Act (OMA) for Attorney General Credit (Saturday, 1:30–2: 30 p.m., 351F).
