Honor School
Boards Selected for
2017 by TASA
Five Texas school boards—Coahoma ISD, Galena Park ISD,
Hardin-Jefferson ISD, Mansfield ISD, and Royse City ISD—have
been selected as 2017 Honor School Boards by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA).
The five boards are now finalists for the program’s highest
honor: 2017 Outstanding School Board. Members of each board
will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas; one
board will be named Outstanding School Board during the Convention’s First General Session October 6.
The other Honor Boards, as well as the regional winners, will
also be recognized at that time. The 11 boards to be recognized as
Regional Honor Boards are:
• Alpine ISD
• Canadian ISD
• Center Point ISD
• Dripping Springs ISD
• Killeen ISD
• Lasara ISD
• Longview ISD
• O’Donnell ISD
• Southwest ISD
• Sulphur Springs ISD
• Wharton ISD
The five Honor Boards were selected by a committee of Texas
school superintendents, chaired by Lancaster ISD Superinten-
dent Michael McFarland, whose school board was named the
Outstanding School Board for 2016. The selection committee’s
decisions were based on specific criteria, including support for
educational performance, support for educational improvement
projects, commitment to a code of ethics, and maintenance of har-
monious and supportive relationships among board members.
Each year, TASA’s Honor School Boards program recognizes
outstanding Texas school boards for commitment and service that
has made a positive impact on Texas public school students. The
program has been honoring school board excellence since 1971.H

Executive Search Services
(ESS) was exactly what
the Sweetwater ISD Board
needed in our search for a
new superintendent. None of
us had been through a search
before, and the ESS staff
graciously helped us along
every step of the way. The processes used
were excellent, yet at no time did we feel like we
were out of the driver’s seat—ESS simply and
efficiently facilitated our search.
